photography.
Shoot each dish in landscape, centred, with a border of table around it. Delivery apps use different shapes — 16:9, 5:4, 4:3, square — and the border is what lets one photo be cut to all of them without losing the food.
One phone photo, every app
What a 12-megapixel landscape photo (4032 × 3024) becomes when cut for each app’s item photo, centred.
| App | Shape | Minimum | You upload | Trims |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DoorDash | 16:9 | 1400 × 800 | 4032 × 2268 | top and bottom, 25% |
| Wolt | 16:9 | — | 4032 × 2268 | top and bottom, 25% |
| Deliveroo | landscape | 1200 × 675 | 4032 × 3024 | nothing |
| Uber Eats | 5:4–6:4 | 550 × 440 | 3780 × 3024 | the sides, 6% |
| Just Eat | 4:3 | 1024 × 768 | 4032 × 3024 | nothing |
| Toast Online Ordering | 5:3 | — | 750 × 450 | top and bottom, 20% |
| Grubhub | 1:1 | 200 × 200 | 3024 × 3024 | the sides, 25% |
| Square Online | 1:1 | — | 2000 × 2000 | the sides, 25% |
| Glovo | — | 500 × 500 | 4000 × 3000 | nothing |
| talabat | landscape | — | 4032 × 3024 | nothing |
The square crop loses a quarter of the width, so keep the dish inside the middle square of the frame. Each row links to that app’s full rules and official source.
Dish by dish
- Set one spot for the whole menu. A table by a window, a plain surface, the same plate style. Every dish shot in the same place looks like one menu.
- Plate it as you deliver it. The real portion in the real packaging or plate. Wolt asks for the real portion, Just Eat for what customers actually receive.
- Pick one angle per dish type. Overhead for pizzas, bowls and flat plates; about 45° for burgers, stacks and drinks. Keep it the same across the menu.
- Frame loose, in landscape. Dish in the middle, a border of table all round. DoorDash wants the dish to fill 50–70% of the frame; the border is what lets one photo become 16:9, 4:3 and square.
- Shoot two, keep the sharpest. Tap the food to focus, hold still, then check at 100% that the front edge is sharp.
- Fix light and colour only. Brighten, neutralise the white plate, straighten. No added garnish, no bigger portion, no generated background.
What gets menu photos rejected
More than one item
Uber Eats, DoorDash, Just Eat and Wolt: one dish per item photo. Sides and drinks get their own.
Text, logos, borders
Rejected by Uber Eats, DoorDash, Deliveroo and Wolt. Put prices and offers in the menu, not on the photo.
People
Deliveroo rejects hands and faces; Wolt and DoorDash reject people; Uber Eats allows a hand.
Portrait or square
DoorDash rejects portrait and square item photos outright. Wolt and talabat want landscape.
Enlarged small photos
DoorDash rejects photos blown up to reach the minimum. Re-shoot instead.
AI-generated food
Deliveroo and Wolt ban AI-generated images; Deliveroo also rejects visibly retouched or collaged photos.
Photos from the web
Grubhub rejects any photo a reverse image search finds elsewhere.
Cut them all at once
Free bulk resizer: drop in the whole menu and download every app’s size, centred, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
Resize a menu, free→Dull or yellow? The photo lab corrects light and colour without touching the food, checks that nothing on the plate changed, and finds the dish so every crop keeps it in frame. The first photo is free.

Questions
What size should menu photos be?
Shoot in landscape at your phone’s full resolution — 12 megapixels is plenty. The largest item-photo minimum among the big apps is DoorDash’s 1400 × 800; a 12 MP photo cropped to 16:9 is 4032 × 2268. Then cut a copy per app, as in the table above.
What aspect ratio do delivery apps use?
They disagree: DoorDash and Wolt 16:9, Uber Eats 5:4 to 6:4, Just Eat 4:3, Toast 5:3, Grubhub and Square 1:1. Leave space round the dish and one photo can be cut to all of them.
Overhead or 45 degrees?
Overhead for flat food — pizza, bowls, salads, plates with several components. About 45° for anything with height: burgers, sandwiches, cakes, drinks. Use the same angle for the same kind of dish.
Can I use AI to improve menu photos?
Correcting light and colour is accepted everywhere. Generating or changing food is not: Deliveroo and Wolt ban AI-generated images. Our photo lab only corrects light, colour and perspective and checks that nothing on the plate changed.
How many menu items need photos?
All of them if you can. At least your best sellers and every item in the first category customers see. Wolt allows up to five photos per item.
