Google Business Profile
photo size.
720 × 720 px recommended, 250 × 250 px minimum, JPG or PNG, 10 KB – 5 MB. That is everything Google publishes, and it covers every photo — including the logo and cover. Other numbers you see online are rules of thumb; this page marks which is which.

| Type | Minimum | Best | Who says | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Business photos | 250 × 250 | 720 × 720 | JPG or PNG, 10 KB – 5 MB. Applies to every photo you upload. | |
| Logo | 250 × 250 | 720 × 720, square | Not published | Google gives no separate logo size; the photo rules above apply. It is shown in a small square, so use a square file. |
| Cover photo | 480 × 270* | 1024 × 576* (16:9) | Not published | Google gives no cover size. 16:9 is what most guides use. Google may show a customer photo instead of yours. |
| Post photos | 250 × 250 | 1200 × 900* (4:3) | Not published | The posts help page gives no image size. 4:3 is a common safe choice. |
| Videos | 720p | Up to 30 s, up to 75 MB | Official video rules. |
* Not published by Google; a common safe choice.
Numbers Google never published
These show up in many size guides. We checked each against Google’s own help pages.
| Common claim | What Google’s help pages say |
|---|---|
| Minimum size is 400 × 300 px | Google’s minimum is 250 × 250 px. |
| Maximum size is 5200 × 5300 px (or 2120 × 1192 for covers) | Google publishes no maximum dimensions — only the 5 MB file limit. |
| Files should be 200 KB – 1 MB | Google accepts 10 KB – 5 MB. Smaller files load faster, but nothing in that range is rejected for size. |
| Post images must be 1200 × 900, as stated in Google Help | Google’s posts help page does not give any image size. |
| Cover photos must be 1024 × 576 | A sensible size, but not one Google publishes. Google says your chosen cover is not guaranteed to show first. |

What gets photos rejected or hidden
Edited and AI photos
Google’s quality rule: “no significant alterations or excessive use of filters or AI … the image should represent reality.” Its Maps guidance says correcting rotation and improving lighting can help; heavy filters, borders, added text and collages do not.
Photos Google removes
Screenshots, stock photos, GIFs, collages, imagery made by someone else, blurry or very dark shots, and photos where a person rather than the place is the subject. Removals for low quality cannot be appealed.
Why a photo is not showing
Photos only appear once the profile is verified, and can take 24–48 hours. Pending means still processing or unverified; Not approved means a policy problem. The logo appears only when name, address, category, phone and hours are complete.
Your cover is not guaranteed
Google says choosing a cover does not guarantee it shows first. If it looks low quality or other signals point to a better photo, a customer’s upload may be shown instead.

What size should Google Business Profile photos be?
Google recommends 720 × 720 pixels and requires at least 250 × 250 pixels, as JPG or PNG between 10 KB and 5 MB. The same rules apply to every photo; Google does not publish separate sizes for the logo, cover or posts.
What is the Google Business Profile cover photo size?
Google does not publish one. Most guides use 1024 × 576 pixels (16:9). Keep the subject in the centre, and note that Google may show a customer photo first if it thinks yours is low quality.
Can I use edited or AI photos on Google Business Profile?
Google asks for photos with no significant alterations or excessive use of filters or AI — the image should represent reality. Fixing rotation and lighting is fine; borders, added text, collages, stock photos and screenshots are not.
Why are my Google Business Profile photos not showing?
Photos only show after the profile is verified, and can take 24–48 hours after upload. A “Not approved” status means the photo broke a policy. Your logo only shows once name, address, category, phone and hours are filled in.
How many photos should I add?
Google suggests at least three each of exterior, interior, products, photos at work, food and drink, rooms and team, plus at least one of each common area — whichever apply to your business.
